All that glitters is not SEO
One of the major things we've noticed in this business is how quickly buzz words
are snapped up and handed out to clients. What is all this hype about Search Engine
Optimization (SEO) anyway?
As just about every web user knows, you can find just about anything online. There
are literally millions of websites. So, how will anyone find yours?
The potential for a lot of businesses is obvious, until the reality of how to get the customers
to
your website sinks in. In a sea of sites, how does one get found?
The answer, usually, is through the search engines like Google, Bing, etc. Google is the largest, most effective and trusted
search engine around. Being able to place well within the search results (page rank)
is a bit of an art and the potential for effect on revenue can be impressive.
Said in the most simplified way possible - having good Google juju is highly sought after and with good reason.
We see many design shops including phrases like "SEO friendly design" in their listing of products and services. Ever
wonder what they mean? So did we. In short, they are saying they use some keywords and if one is lucky they might
also mean they use what is called "compliant code" - a way of telling you that the site is written properly. Beyond that
we're pretty certain that many design shops aren't meaning a whole lot else.
